OCTATONIC DECADENCE

presenting exquisite choral music

Performers:

Brooke Dufton soprano
Praised for her ‘great skill’ (Globe and Mail), ‘strong presence’ (Peterborough Examiner), and ‘beautiful tone and control’ (The Chronicle-Herald),
Brooke Dufton has sung for such organizations as Soundstreams, Toronto New Music Concerts, Arraymusic, Stratford Summer Music, Opera Nova Scotia, Talisker Players, and L’Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal. Dedicated to the promotion of new, and especially Canadian music, she has premiered roles and pieces for numerous Canadian composers. Ms. Dufton’s affinity for the music of R. Murray Schafer in particular has resulted in leading roles in many of his operas, and frequent performances of his works in concert. Ms. Dufton has been recorded by the CBC and the CMC, and has recorded Brahms’ Requiem with L’Orchestre Symphonique de l’Ile. She has received the Stratford Festival Young Artist Award, the Richard Bradshaw Fellowship for Opera, and both the Award for Advanced Voice and the National ACNMP award in recognition of her performances of Canadian classical music.
In addition to performing in traditional contexts, she is drawn to productions that challenge conventions, and has performed from the tops of trees, an Olympic high dive platform, and the bow of a canoe. Her exploratory performances have been seen in highlight productions for Toronto’s Harbourfront Festival, numerous Nuit Blanche festivals, and Kitchener’s Open Ears Festival, among others, and she is a founding member of the multidisciplinary ensemble
SoundShow, producing guerrilla art and original installation works in unique sites across Ontario.
